'People for the Planet' Charity on Soil Erosion
The charity, People for the Planet (PFTP), hosted a fundraiser Sunday afternoon from 1:00-3:00 on September 20th at Wallin Park. PFTP is a non-profit based charity that raises money towards saving the earth from soil erosion. The organization's headquarters are in Hastings, Minnesota. The rising flood waters have been slowly breaking down the top layer of soil in Hastings and PFTP is dedicated to raising $2 million dollars to dump new soil over the whole town.
The lead fundraising manager of PFTP took to the podium to debut the detailed report of the latest analyzed test results of the soil strength in Hastings, obviously very distraught. "The reports we have just received from the EPA are worse than we feared. I cannot stress the importance of raising our fundraising goal in order to replace the lost soil so Hastings doesn't sink into the river," said Dan Johnson, PFTP manager. According to the EPA, there was a faster depletion rate than neighboring towns. "The rate has now jumped from 2% to 8% during the spring season of 2020 and the water has washed away the minerals that allow the soil to thrive," says Professor Jake Carlson.
Fortunately, the headquarters of People for the Planet reside in Hastings and are able to monitor the soil levels multiple times a day to keep track of accurate data for the EPA to analyze. The fundraiser hosted this past Sunday was able to bring in $2.4 million, exceeding the $2 million goal by $400,000! In past years, the annual baseball tournament fundraiser has never broke $1 million. PFTP keeps in touch with their followers through their Twitter account which has proved to be very popular, especially in a recent tweet on September 21st that gained over 200,000 likes. "We are thrilled to announce the fundraiser was a huge success and we raised enough money to cover the entire city of Hastings with allocated extra money being donated to the EPA for further research," says CEO Brayden Thompson of PFTP.
